Importance of proper diet

* Definition-
A balanced diet provides accurate amount of nutrients required by the body to grow, remain healthy and be disease-free. In addition, a healthy, balanced diet provides the necessary energy requirement, protects against vitamin, mineral, and other nutritional deficiencies, and builds up immunity.

* Components of a healthy diet -
 • Carbohydrates - Provides you energy and should constitute of 50 % of your diet. Whole grains, whole wheat, Dahlia , Legumes, Millets, Vegetables.
• Protein - Helps in building muscels and developing hair and skin. Should constitute of 10-12% of the diet. Legumes and beans, soyabean, Poultry, Seafood, Eggs, Lean meat, Nuts ,Greek yoghurt.
The other constitutes are Fat, Vitamins, Minerals and Water.

A healthy diet helps strengthen bones, supports brain development, boosts immunity, and regulates growth functions.

A good nutrition means your body gets all the nutrients it needs to work at its best.

Most people know good nutrition and physical activity can help maintain a healthy weight. But the benefits of good nutrition go beyond weight. Good nutrition can help:
* Reduce the risk of diseases, including heart disease, diabetes, stroke, some cancers, and osteoporosis
* Reduce blood pressure
* Improve your well-being
* Improve your ability to fight off illness
* Boosts immunity and energy

Indian foods have always resonated with fragrance and flavours. It is considered to be one of the most diverse and popular foods in the world. It is diverse and healthy. An average Indian diet, balanced in different food groups is adequate to provide healthy nutrition. But still we see India is called as the diabetes capital of the world because  - 
A study done by Lancet concluded that Indians tend to consume more of carbohydrates, sugar, less of protein and plant protein than what is recommended for a sample adult population base, despite having access to multiple dietary sources.

* Diet Culture - Diet culture involves a rigid set of beliefs and expectations about one’s body, body image with weight and physical appearance. It devalues ones emotional well-being and mental state.Diet culture is toxic and in the longer run poses stringent effects on mind and body.


* Conclusion- 
A balanced good diet will help in the functioning of the body in a smooth way eliminating the risks of chronic diseases. 
With age we see our parents and grandparents still being able to work and perform better than the coming generations because of the changing lineant and liberal food habits. Good food habits tend to provide a cultural and social identification to a society and it’s our responsibility to make sure to make the world we live in a better place.
